WE CAN, AND WILL

LET’S MAKE
NEWARK GREAT TOGETHER

As your Newark City Councilperson, I will fight to concentrate on what I call the T.H.E. Program, which stands for

  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Education

I will fight and work to create a holistic program to address homelessness, affordable housing, lack of public transit and how best to utilize our higher education facilities in the county, which include Denison, OSU, COTC to become partners in public transit.

JOBS
With a robust public transportation system and a well educated populace, Newark will attract many jobs, as well as trade jobs.

POLICE AND FIRE
The city wants to build a new fire station with no permanent plans to staff it beyond grant monies. The equipment we have is aging and being rebuilt. Newark shouldn’t be cross manning stations and spreading our first responders too thin. There are some days when we only have 5 officers on duty in a city of 50.000 people. This is unacceptable.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Newark has very large potholes that can be found throughout the city. We have many bridges to maintain. We need to focus on our infrastructure and roads.

TRANSPARENCY
I will make it a priority to bring transparency and honesty as an elected official. I will operate with complete transparency, and will make sure all city staff and management operates in accordance with Sunshine Laws.

ADDICTION AND HARM REDUCTION
We had more than 40 OD deaths in 2018, and we are trending upward. We have also seen an increase in HIV, Hep A, Hep C at the grassroots level. I will work to bring long term treatment facilities, like the Landing in Frazeysburg to Newark. I will advocate for harm reduction services in the city to decrease HIV, Hep C, A & B among our citizens. I will work to create advocacy programs that have proven 5 times more successful in getting addicts into treatment. I will work to bring low barrier and transitional housing that is INCLUSIVE of everyone.

SHELTER SPACE AND LOW BARRIER HOUSING
We are out of shelter space for the homeless in Newark. I would advocate for public/private partnerships to bring more affordable housing to Newark. I am actively working to bring a tent city to Newark to provide a place for the homeless to set up, without being harassed. A place where we can count them, provide social services, dumpsters and porta pots and showers. We must stop criminalizing the homeless and address the issue of 300 homeless children in the city of Newark.

RENTAL PROTECTIONS AND REGISTRATION
I will work with Nancy Welu and the Freedom School to draft smart landlord and tenant responsibilities and protections, and present them at council. We need to end the horror that is Newark’s eviction court.
